Creating a learner code for technical training and using it in the Learning Experience Platform

Creating a learner code for technical training and using it in the Learning Experience Platform

Watch the walkthrough above, or follow the step-by-step instructions below — each step has a screenshot so you can match what you see on your screen.

What you'll do

You'll add a learner to a technical course — the C-130 Maintenance Foundations course — get their personal code, open the Learning Experience Platform — the learner app at /lxp — to see their assigned path, and then jump straight back to the admin portal. Creating the code works just like it does in any other organization; the main difference is how the learner views their assigned path.

Create the learner code

Step 1 — Add the learner and read the Reg code

Make sure you're in your technical organization. Open the user menu, go to Settings, open the Org Admin card, and choose Learners. Find the C-130 Maintenance Foundations group, expand it, and click Add Learner. Enter the learner's name (optional fields can be skipped) and save. The learner's Reg code appears on their row.

Note: The Add Learner screen looks the same here as in any other organization — the steps to create a code don't change between a leadership course and a technical course.

Open the learner app at /lxp

Step 2 — Enter the code at /lxp

Go to your CommandIQ web address and add /lxp to the end of it. On the Enter your code screen, type the learner's code — or tap it in using the Color, Animal, and Number picker — then tap Continue.

Step 3 — See the personalized learning path

The learner's personalized learning path opens. It shows the first hands-on step under Up Next and what's coming after it. Later steps stay Locked until earlier ones are complete.

Tip: The path is tailored to each learner, so the first step shown is exactly where that person will begin.

Get back to the admin portal

Step 4 — Remove /lxp from the address

When you're done previewing the learner's view, click in your browser's address bar, remove /lxp from the end of the address, and press Enter. You're taken straight back into the admin portal, with your admin session still active.

Frequently asked questions

Is creating a code different in a technical organization?

No. The Add Learner screen and steps are the same as in any other organization. The difference is only in how the learner views their path — in a technical organization they use the Learning Experience Platform (the /lxp app).

How do I switch between the learner app and the admin portal?

Add /lxp to your web address to open the learner app, and remove /lxp from the address to return to the admin portal. Your admin session stays active, so you land right back where you were.
