How to Set Your Default Microphone If the Microphone Isn’t Working on the Browser Player

If your microphone isn’t working correctly in our browser player, it’s often because Windows is set to use a different default microphone than the one you’re speaking into.

Follow the steps below to set your headset or preferred microphone as the default system microphone.

NOTE: The three browsers supported by Moth+Flame’s browser player are Chrome (Windows and Mac), Edge (Windows), and Safari (Mac).

Step-by-Step Instructions (Windows)

Open Sound Settings

  1. On the bottom-right corner of your screen, find the speaker icon (next to the clock).

  2. Right-click the speaker icon:

  3. Select "Sound settings" from the menu:

Find Your Input Device

  1. In the Sound settings window, you’ll see two main sections:

    • Output (your speakers or headset)

    • Input (your microphones)

  2. Under Input, locate the microphone you want to use (for example, Headset Mic or Boom Mic):

Open Device Properties

  1. Click on the microphone name to open its settings page.

Set as Default Microphone

  1. On this page, look for the line that says "Set as default sound device."

  1. Click the dropdown menu next to it.

  2. Choose:

  • "Use as default for communications"

  • "Use as default for audio."

Confirm It’s Active

  1. You should now see your selected microphone listed as the Default and Default Communications Device in the Sound Settings list.

Return to Your Browser

  1. Go back to your web browser and reload the app.

  2. It should now use your selected microphone automatically.
